Shelby has been rescuing dogs and cats since 2016. Sometimes the odd animals like beta fish, sheep or ducklings. Whatever really comes her way! Her true love is for senior dogs and cats- ones that no one wants- simply because they are just too old, too tired, too sick or not your typical cuteness. Shelby works full time as the Non-profit Coordinator for Amazing Small Animal Practice. Shelby previously worked in an industrial area with many stray cats and kittens, which opened up her eyes to animals in need. With her love of animals, she could not just see them suffer on the streets, so she started to learn about rescuing kittens and cats. She started with socializing the kittens and adopting them out. Then began the new adventure of TNR: trapping the adults cats to get them fixed and release them. She soon moved on to rescuing dogs and you can guess where she ended up 8 years later!
About 3 years into rescuing, she fell in love with a senior dog at the Downey Animal Care Center. She was 7 going on 15. Still lactating from her last litter, pneumonia, kennel cough, severe arthritis, fungal infection, ear infection, missing hair and burns from the hot cement she was tied up on. Her feet were so spread apart from standing on them year after year carrying litters and litters of puppies. Never given a break until the day her owners dropped her off at the shelter after birthing more puppies- discarding her like trash. She was there for a month before Shelby saw her. The second she laid eyes on her- she knew she wasn't leaving without her. She quickly brought her home and provided all the medical care and love she so desperately needed. She immediately fell in love with her and decided to make her a part of her pack. She had 1 amazing year with her before she passed of heart failure. Her name was Nala. She is what inspired the name of this rescue.
